Blogging, by definition, means creating educational content on specific topics. Blogging has become an essential tool for online marketing, and you have to be familiar with how blogs work for you to be able to effectively use them for your business.
Business blogs work differently than personal blogs. They create brand awareness, increase online visibility, drive traffic to your site, and help achieve your company’s goals and objectives.

1. Check for Relevance
Once you have a general idea of what to write, you can check sites like Uber Suggest or Google Trends on how relevant your topic ideas are. These sites can even help you narrow down your topic into something more specific.

- Google Trends is easy to use, and it’s free. Simply enter a keyword and you’ll get results instantly.
- Once you type the keyword/s you’ve thought of, you will see other related topics.
- You may check the interest level of your topic per subregion. In the picture below, for example, you will see that the topic hair color is much more searched in West Virginia than it is in Tennessee. This kind of information can help you determine if your target market is actually searching about your topic or let you write something targeted.
- Google Trends will also show you a list of related trending topics for additional blog ideas.
By going through the trends, you will see that a good topic to write about would be “hair color ideas 2020”.
2. Use Keywords Correctly.
In order for your target market to find you, your keywords should be relevant to your blog and to your business. The keywords you choose will determine the quality of readers that will land on your site.
Avoid using generic keywords; choose ones that are specific to your target market.
In the earlier example, you will see how “hair color” might to be too ambiguous, and that using “hair color ideas 2020” would be better to use.
Here’s another example. The word “studio” is very vague. It could mean art studio, or television studio, or many other things. Using “dance studio” would be better, but utilizing the phrase “dance studio in New York” would be best. Using longer keywords sets you apart from your competition and will increase your odds of ranking higher on Google.
3. Be Consistent with Your Branding.
Whatever marketing effort you make, may it be an online or offline activity, make sure that it is consistent with your branding. Everything you use in your blog should be consistent with your branding – the color and size of your logo, the palettes that you choose, and the voice that you use when speaking to your audience.
As blogs are more formal than a text message or an email from your company, make sure to write quality blogs. In some cases, they are the first thing that a potential client will see about your company. Making a great first impression is vital.
4. Consider Your Readers.
Your readers landed on your blog because they found in it a solution to a problem or a need that they want to address. Remember to keep your blog informative but easy to read and to make the links clickable. The ultimate goal of your blog is to make the reader visit your site and avail of your products or services.
